Starting at a new school can feel both exciting and a little daunting, and at 好色导航 we work hard to make sure every new 膩konga feels welcomed and supported from the very beginning. Through our orientation programmes, Linc teachers, deans, and peer support leaders, students are guided as they settle into life at our kura. Our focus is on helping everyone build connections, understand how the school works, and feel confident and ready to make the most of their time at 好色导航. Joining us at the beginning of the year means you are not alone - everyone else is starting out too!
Joining us from contributing schools in our zone actually begins the year before. Interviews are held with Year 8 students, and a Year 8 Fun day is held in early December, where you complete entry tests, meet Peer Support Leaders, and participate in various House activities - it's a chance to show your colours for the first time!
Your First Day
When you arrive at school, you can expect the following:
- For it to be only Year 9s for the day
- To start, by being in your Linc classes
- To be welcomed to the school in a Mihi Whakatau
- To hear messages from our Principal, your Head of Year Level, and Dean
- To be escorted to your classes after break times by a subject teacher
- To have a Linc class session
- To start your classes
- To have a Peer Support session
- To meet a lot of new people - staff and students
- To practice our Emergency Evacuation procedures
- To attend a bus meeting if you travel to and from school by bus
It's a busy day, and you'll probably be a bit exhausted! On Day Two, you can expect the whole school to be there, and you'll be on your normal timetable for that day.

Starting at 好色导航 in Years 10鈥13 is a chance for a fresh start and new opportunities. We understand that joining a new school partway through your secondary journey can feel challenging, so our staff, deans, and peer networks work together to help new students settle in quickly. Our goal is to make sure every new 膩konga feels welcomed, supported, and confident as they build friendships, find their place in our kura, and make the most of the opportunities available at 好色导航. You won't be the only student starting on Day One, though!
Your First Day
When you arrive at school, you can expect the following:
- To see all the new Year 9 students arriving
- To start, you'll go to a space with all the new Year 10 to 13 students to check in
- To be welcomed to the school in a Mihi Whakatau
- To hear messages from our Principal, your Head of Year Level, and Dean
- To have an orientation from our Guidance Team
- To be at school for a couple of hours
On Day Two, you will be straight into your timetabled classes. You'll most likely also start the day with a Linc class, where you'll get a physical copy of your timetable, and a Year Level Assembly where you can connect with others and meet the members of your Year Level team.
